One thrill after another...

Today I went grocery shopping. Except I went to three different grocery stores. My parents are hosting a Ramadan dinner tomorrow night and my contributory effort was to go grocery shopping (I can hear the aunties voices in sing song already....and Frieda, what did you cook? Guess what the answer has been for the past 14 years that they have been asking me that question? Hmmm. Yet no one catches on and stops asking)

So I go to HEB to get way too much fresh produce. I am picking tomatoes when I suddenly realized that I was picking tomatoes the way I used to watch my parents pick produce. You know what I am talking about, those people who are actually picking out the tomatoes. Like holding it in their hands, testing consistency, God forbid, sniffing at it, searching for the best ones. So today I found myself well, picking tomatoes. Don't get me wrong, on an average grocery store trip I don't want the too soft or rotten tomato either. I ain't dumb. But I don't exactly have an amazing technique. But today I was pretending I did. I mean I would pick up a tomato, put it down, roll one aside, pick up another tomato, and then put that one in my bag. Except that both tomatoes equally met my very general criteria.

So in essence, I was mimicking my parents but had no real idea what I was doing. Once I realized this I was amused. Then I saw someone pass by and glance at me and then I was like, oh, I wonder if they think I know what I am doing. Then I thought, bet they do, cause I look foreign, bet they think I am more down with the earth. You know what I mean right? Cause you don't really expect white people to know about vegetables unless they are from the country. And you just kind of think brown people know something about fresh produce.

Ok, well, at least I do :).

well viewers, i hope your heart rate didn't go up too much during that exciting entry.

noni, it's either dry cleaning or grocery shopping when I am not at work. No complaints.

Is there something I am missing?

Does anyone know if $3.99 dry cleaning is better than $1.25 dry cleaning? I went to a place on Kirby the other day and the starting price was $3.99/garment. Um. And then I was thinking why is that there are dry cleaning places in the suburbs at least that offer much cheaper prices.

and what is the difference????
any thoughts?
