Arranged weddings (for nony)

No this is not about my propensity for future progeny (?lol) but a conversation that occurred during morning rounds yesterday.

Attending: 'The more I see in life the more I think the arranged wedding folks had it right. The older people are wiser. (Turning to stare at me and saying in a singsong voice): 'I am staaaring at Frieda. Frieda was your marriage arranged?'

Frieda: (Stare of great dislike tempered by inability to truly give attending hate glare...resulting I think in a rather funny looking facial expression) Uh.....no.

Attending: 'Oh. How about your parents then?'

Frieda: (with feeling of bubbling resentment growing inside me) No.

Attending then turning to Korean resident who she insists on calling Chinese:
'And how about you?'

Korean resident, after look of great irritation: ' Um, my husband is whiter than white people.'

Attending: 'Oh, ok then.' (Pausing at looking over at me and perhaps noticing that I was hating her....hard to tell with her difficulty picking up on social cues) 'You see I am just a blunt person. Hahahahaha.'

Ha. Ha. I myself had a hard time controlling my laughter. Now there have been many other mishaps this month with my attending having to do with her preoccupation/fascination/irritation with me (Example: You Islamic folks meditate, right?). What irritates me more than people being stupid (which can only be so irritating because we are all stupid about some thing right) and then being stupid enough to ask stupid questions in an annoying way, is people who think they are actually very culturally aware and are actually making you comfortable by acknowledging you. And when that person is your attending, it is even worse. Because once you bring a power differential and stupidity together, what you end up having in some form or another is injustice.

Which made me think hard about our system for reporting any sort of prejudice in the medical work place. Why isn't there an anonymous reporting system of incidents? What mechanism is there?

My purse is NOT from Target.

Those of you following the vagaries of my big purse which I probably spent a little too much money on:

Today in the elevator at the taub this tech steps on and looks over at me and says,

"I just love your purse. So big and pretty, perfect for stuffing popcorn and candy into it and sneaking it into a movie theater.'

Hmmm.
Good to know my purse inspires ghetto thoughts. Must look expensive.

Things I look forward to....

Insight into the crazy slightly pathetic world I live in.

So I was thinking today about what keeps me going from day to day. I mean besides the fact that I kind of have to go to work and that kind of propels you forward.

So here is my stream of consciousness: things I am looking forward to....
my day off this week.
Harry Potter 7
Harry Potter 5 the movie
ok I got stuck here. That is a little sad. I will push myself to keep going.

Rascall Flatts!
Frieda day. (aka 04/29. get ready everyone)
my last day of intern year.
Actually, the whole last month of intern year.

losing five pounds (this is more amorphous).
unfreezing the eggplant lasagna in my freezer.

A great shoe sale (amorphous as well...who knows when this will happen)
Cleaning my sheets. (ok this is a blatant lie..this is something I am pretending to looking forward to but really I just have to do it.)

Falling in love.
Happy Feet coming out on DVD.

Hana making apple upside down cake with caramel (now announced to the world! no pressure!)
Having my own patients. And my own office.

Having a toddler. (not a baby...not a full grown child...just a toddler)
Gilmore girls getting better again. If not, well, this season's DVD.

Visiting my family in Egypt. Sigh. Am unsure when this will happen.
Seeing my pooky shmooky Doha on the weekend. (mortified in public. yes I know Doha)

Actually, borrowing Doha's black shirt dress with white polka dots.

Having a maid.

Thanks for following,
:) - very well placed smiley face
