Freaking Guns

This news from Virginia Tech is seriously horrifying. Guns in the U.S. are too accessible. Yet astoundingly, there are a ton of people out there who think that their individual freedom is more important than a society's safety.

wow frieda
its true though...
i got home and baba was like "have you seen the news?"

i read this book for english last year (it made a really interesting report) called Give a Boy a Gun, its a series of quotes from the members and victims of the columbine school shooting. sometimes you forget its not fiction and you keep on reading, then they'll change the person they're tape recording/typing from and you're like woah..its real. one part that really amazed me where the two boys had been planning it for a while. they had gotten their AIM conversations and they were like "boy1 says: i got the gun. boy2 says: good" and i was like...wow...
it was amazing how easily they got the triggered bombs and guns, and its really true.

try reading give a boy a gun. its pretty interesting

I'm against the whole right to bear arms thing, too. BUT have to be careful about the individual freedoms v. societal safety kind of arguments. That's the kind of argument that instinctively makes sense but is often presented by those who justify keeping Afghani and other world citizens locked in American detention camps in Guantanamo Bay, et al. for years with no charges or trials because it is protection against "terrorism" and thus, ostensibly protecting American society. You dig?

Not, of course, meant to take away from the main point of your blog. Just a sidenote.
